Fasching

It's the season of "Fasching"!  Fasching (also called Mardi Gras or Carnival) is the time leading up to Lent, where people celebrate with parades, parties, and festivals. It is really fun for the kids, because they get to dress up and celebrate with what they call "Kinder Fasching" activities. Mia was able to get into the spirit by participating in an annual Fasching Show. Her group did a really cute dance and had to perform on 4 different evenings. They transformed the soccer club into a "dinner theater", and it was really fun to see all of the German traditions. The entire audience sang and rocked back and forth in their seats. Lots of "prosts" and other fun traditions too. The girls had been practicing since November and were so proud - it was really cute to watch.

This photo cracks me up. Mia sitting at "the bar" after a long afternoon of dancing... so funny) *The drink was what the Germans calls a "spezi" - it is half Cola and half orange Fanta.

Yesterday, Mia and I got an invitation to attend a "Kinder Fasching" Party at a real night club (or as the Germans' call it, "a disco"). It was definitely an interesting experience... It was held in the afternoon (it was only for kids), and it was so funny to see these kids all dressed up in costume, sitting at the bar and dancing on the dance floor to loud music. Mia had a great time dancing with her friends - a really funny/interesting experience for sure!
